Today at the start of class, we were asked to hand in our blog review. Only three groups were able to hand the whole package in (including us. Yay!). The package was the one we did on Monday including the pair review of the individual posts and the group review. Ms. Lees was upset and had a talk with us about our work habits and how it was semester two and we should be able to finish all our homework. The "talk" ended in the resolution of the following: if you do not post then you will be required to come on a flex day to make it up and post it that day. Also, if you did not hand in the package you and your group are required for flex Thursday.
After this talk, we moved on to the concept web presentation. Everyone had to share one fact that they learned from the book and one thing that they learned from the process of making the web, whether it was about collaboration or about making the web itself. The most common problem mentioned was either that someone did not do or want to do enough work for some reason or the group was too distracted and could not get much work done. We only got through around three or four groups before break time.
After break, we looked at the IDEO shopping cart video and finished debriefing it. Next we reviewed the expectations for the short answers for the novel and were given the novel questions for Ch.3 to Ch.14. We were given the rest of the period to work on that
Learning Intentions
We were given the "talk" because Ms. Lees had expected us to do better and this was a warning to the students who were not doing so well in handing things in on time, especially the group work/projects because it effected other people's marks as well.
The web presentation was for us to share the information on the Middle Ages as this is an introduction to the Middle Ages unit. However this was more about the process part that mattered the most. We needed to look back what we were doing wrong and what we did right so we can fix the problems and continue doing the things we did right.
The IDEO shopping cart video was for us to look at how collaboration is important and how to make a project run smoothly by making everyone participate.
The questions are there to make sure that we read and understood the novel. It is also to make us conduct further thinking and putting them onto paper in a complete and descriptive sentence.
Connections/Reflections
The web presentation was really nice because I learned a lot about the Middle Ages and how everyone has a different work habit. Some of the webs were really nice. The IDEO shopping cart was all about collaboration and right after this project, I can't agree more with some of the ideas like encourage wild ideas and no criticism. Our group's talking and idea contribution was mostly done by me as I was mostly "yes, but" kind of person so other group members got a little discouraged and did not talk.
Collaboration, as we have mentioned numerous times before, is an important skill in life because you will need it during and after graduation. As long as you work with people you will need collaboration to communicate and get along with your group members and clients and boss etc.
Homework
- Finish Ch.3 and Ch.4 questions for Friday (remember to leave some space after each question, make sure that you can see the questions in the answer and use details to back up general statements)
- Post on your blog and comment if you are not posting (remember to write at least two comments per month)
- Go to flex tomorrow if you have not finished the blog review package
Trevor has the honor to post on Friday.
sorry I posted a little late today.
ReplyDeleteWow impressive job Fred! :) Good job! And I believe I am posting on Friday!? :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post today, Fredrick! i think you covered everything that was done in this double block.
ReplyDeleteI think you did paragraph but it was not done consistently (by this I mean that you did it for the
first paragraph in each section, and then kind of forgot about it). I feel so mean when I critique.
Anyway... Yay! You should definitely use this as one to peer edit.
But I did do paragrahs for all the sections. Didn't I? and thank you for the compliment :)
ReplyDeleteWe think this post would be a 5 because each section has specific details and examples. Paragraphing needs to be watched some for consistency as Sara suggested. Acknowledging your own areas needing continued growth shows that you are paying attention to criteria, expectations in class and are by having a willingness to share, you demonstrate that you are still willing to learn further. This is very mature.
