Learning Log ~ February 15, 2012
Hi everyone! As you noticed we didn’t have a post for yesterday and we’ll all have to make up a few posts since we missed a few. Just because I’m posting today doesn’t mean that someone else can’t post, we can have duplicates for the same day! We all better catch up soon!
What We Did Today
Today was basically a quiet work time that we had. Our task was to take notes on The Manor in Chapter 2 and Women’s Roles in Chapter 5 of the Pathways textbook. Today was a double block day and our substitute (Ms. Harris) only expected the note taking to occupy one block but it ended up taking the time of both blocks. The notes on The Manor were from page 47 to 53. The notes on Women’s Roles were partly covered in Chapter 2... And now I’ve gone and forgotten the pages for the Chapter 5 notes!
For these notes, we could use any of the styles of note taking that we had learned previously, I personally prefer the outline format so I used that style for both the chapters.
After taking those notes we had to do a comparison between women and their roles in the Middle Ages and women and their roles today. There was a surprising difference between some of the policies back then and now, this is not true across the globe, though. There are some places where things are very similar if not the same as in the Middle Ages like the inferiority of women and illiteracy.
If you finished the notes, you had to start on the Chapter 8 questions for There Will Be Wolves. Most people didn’t get to that, though. At least not me!
Why We Did It
This quiet work time was to develop our concentration for longer periods of time. It was also beneficial because you had to pace yourself and watch the time as you were completing the assignments so that you worked faster to get the task completed in the allotted time slot. The incentive was that you didn’t have to go to FLEX and finish the notes because we can’t take the Pathways textbooks home. If you finished faster, it would help to get you less homework for the night and the weekend.
Connections and Reflections
Today I felt like a really slow worker. I was nearly the last to finish my notes, and I’m not entirely sure that I did a great job on them either. For some reason unknown to me, I was feeling extra squirmy today! I didn’t feel like working and I would rather have run around in 100 circles and get dizzy. So I had to force myself to sit down and be quiet so I didn’t distract other people. Believe me, that’s hard to do.
When I read about the injustice in the Middle Ages, I understood why women around the world were fighting for more freedom and rights. It must have been frustrating to have to marry someone you didn’t love for the profit of your family. It must have seemed at some point like they didn’t love you and that you were merely a tool to aid them in forming alliances with other families.
Homework
Today, we had the Chapter 8 There Will Be Wolves questions assigned to us, they’re due on Friday. That’s it for homework... Oh, and make sure you have at least 10 posts on this blog. If you need to post more, post anytime you’re available! If you haven’t finished your notes from today, I highly recommend that you go to FLEX on Thursday (tomorrow).
One more thing.
Trevor, have you made your own lunch or only bought lunch once this week?
Shanese, have you been practicing piano lately? I feel your pain.
Fredrick, have you been watching the evening news and keeping track of recent events?
And, yes. I have been keeping up with my thirty day challenge, too. It would be terribly hypocritical of me to ask you all if you’ve been doing what you’ve challenged yourselves to do if I, myself hadn’t been doing the same.
