LEARNING LOG~ Feb.3/2012

What we did

Today we didn't do much! On Wednesday Ms.Lees assigned chapter 3 and 4 questions for Friday. She checked every ones questions to see if they were finished. I remember Ms. Lees saying if everyone finishes the homework she will give no homework for the weekend! Well today she gave homework so I'm guessing someone did not finish it:( We also continued on finishing the web presentations. Good Job everyone!

Learning Intentions

The story our class is reading is There Will Be Wolves. Each chapter the class gets assigned to do questions. We do the questions because its a good way to know if we understand the book. Its also a good way to analyze, connect and share your thinking when writing your answer. Ms.Lees said we need to write our sentences with a more grade 8 level instead off having a vague answer. Presenting in front of the class is a great way to speak up, have confidence in yourself and have a good sense of knowledge. Our presentations weren't formal because it was a practice for when we have formal presentations in the future.

Connections/Reflections

Presenting in front of a audience really helps people build up there confidence. I remember in grade 4 and 6 my elementary school had speech fests! In grade 4 it was the first time I ever did public speaking. I had butterflies in my stomach. It was a great way for me to build confidence and speak in a loud tone of voice so the audience can hear me. I am glad my elementary school had speech fests because in the future you will need to do public speaking. This is definitely a great way to prepare you for the future!!!

Homework/Tips

- Finish chapter 3 and 4 questions
- Flex will be on Monday if you haven't finished the blog review package
- There Will Be Wolves read chapter 5
- If you finished reading the book or chapter 5 I suggest you should skim through the chapter so you can be ready for Monday

Have a great weekend everyone! Enjoy the beautiful sunshine! :)

  1. good job but I think you should put the expectations of a "grade 8 answer" down in the What we did section or as a homework tip

  2. i like the learning intention that you had for the There Will Be Wolves questions. It's especially true for me. When i read I have a tendency to just enjoy the book without thinking about the content. The questions help to keep me focused.
Good job your post, and +'m glad you had enough time after visiting your family :)

  5. This is probably a 3-4 according to our criteria. Some good feedback from your group members here. Some parts of your Learning blog are clear and give examples (eg. learning intentions, connections)- well done. Other parts need some more depth of thought; they are incomplete or very literal / surface reflections. I am surprised that you thought we did "not much" on Friday. How did we fill a whole block? What should audience members have been doing while we presented webs? ("listening" would be the surface / literal answer. Consider what we would be listening for? What do active listeners do while others are presenting? If you need help with this, let me know.

  6. I appreciate the feed back! What I meant by we did "not much" is that we didn't do a list of things. We definetly filled up our block listening to presentations. I think we had a different understanding of the word choice I chose!
